About fifteen years ago, Wijnand (25) and Joram (39) were both members of the same music society in Ede. There was no click between them at the time; after all, there were simply too many years between them. But when they got a match through a dating app five years ago, they soon found that they talked like old friends and fell in love.
Wijnand: "For our first date we had agreed to go to the movies. Joram was supposed to pick me up at home, but at the appointed time he wasn't there. When I called him he said, "I'm almost driving down your street." And indeed, a silver car stopped at the door. I got in, turned around ... and there was the neighbor behind the wheel! So I had gotten into the wrong car. Joram turned out to be driving behind it in his - also silver - car. Quickly I got into his car. From that first appointment, love grew. I wasn't always comfortable in my own skin at the time, but Joram was always there for me. After six months I moved in with him. And soon I knew: I want to marry him. Getting married has always been a dream of mine anyway.
Joram: "I didn't really need to get married, but I still asked Wijnand to marry me during our vacation in Tenerife. On a beautiful rock with a great view of the sea, I got down on one knee. Fortunately, Wijnand said resoundingly, "Yes, of course!" After which we both cried buckets of happiness. Soon after that we started thinking about what our wedding day should look like.
By the way, I did go a little overboard in the organization
Wijnand: "Because I love the whole organization of a wedding, I wanted to do it right away. I did go a bit overboard with the organization. Besides all the essential things, such as setting a date and picking a location, I had designed a layout with lanterns and pink hearts. You could see that design in the invitation and menu card, for example. And the toughest men could dry their tears at the emotional ceremony with personalized handkerchiefs...' Joram: 'For the location we almost immediately ended up at Van der Valk Hotel Veenendaal. It is close to where we live and we always like the quality of Van der Valk Hotels. So that choice was easy for us. We also wanted everything in one location: the dinner, the ceremony afterwards, the party and everyone who wanted could stay in the hotel. Everything was very well organized, nothing was too much to ask. Our wedding day was, partly because of that, truly amazing!
