"We have been making artisanal wines for generations. Our company consists of nine wine families; these bodegas together form Bodegas Vinotage. Each of these wine families has its own expertise, works according to its own method and is fully responsible for the wine production of its own plot. But there is cross-pollination when it comes to knowledge. We combine modern and more traditional techniques and this is how we can make the most beautiful wines. Our philosophy is to produce 100 percent natural and pure wines with respect for nature, without any additives. We've always done it that way. The sustainability principle that everyone is talking about these days is in our DNA. We take very good care of our vineyards and do not work with pesticides, we are very much at the forefront of that. Bodegas Vinotage has always made the organic and biodynamic wines that are so popular today.'

STRONG SENSE OF FAMILY

'We are the regular wine supplier at Van der Valk And we experience that cooperation as very nice. Of course, like Bodegas Vinotage, it is a family business. This family feeling is very much present at both companies. That gives a special feeling of involvement. There is the same kind of dynamic in which we understand each other well. We've even been together with Van der Valk took up the challenge to produce a delicious artisanal house wine Luna de Ana, named after my mother.'

"At Bodegas Vinotage, we want the grapes to grow as naturally as possible, without intervention. A healthy grape, especially from old vines, that has been picked at just the right time after ripening, is also delicious to eat. And it is precisely this pure, intense fruit notes and structure that we want to preserve when making our wines. Because we work on a small scale in our family bodegas and make the wines with great care, we often pick the grapes by hand. Without wasting time, the grapes are pressed within 20 minutes, so we don't have to use any chemical additives (sulphites). Here, too, we want to make the process as natural as possible with as little intervention as possible.'

ATTENTION AND LOVE

'We have no ambition to become a big winery. It is precisely because of the small scale that we can focus on the quality and innovation of our wines and cava. We give the whole process of winemaking an incredible amount of attention and love, which we think is the only way. And without being a great wine connoisseur, you can taste that too, because in the end... You are the best sommelier.'
