Sarah Dikker is a creative jack-of-all-trades with a great love for flowers and plants. As a concept designer in green she makes the most beautiful creations such as the complete design and realization of the decoration of high-end weddings and events, and she is also art director for all kinds of marketing content for various types of green companies, from growers (collectives) to international flower companies. 'Most people probably know me as the winner of the SBS6 program Hollands Beste Bloemstylist. Although it's been quite a long time since that aired (in 2014, ed.), that TV show really had a big impact on the flower industry. An incredible number of people watched it!
'My grandfather used to have a flower garden that I visited regularly as a child. I loved that. But I never thought: I want to do something with flowers or plants. Actually, I wanted to become a detective or a police officer. It was my mother who at some point said, "You are very creative, isn't flower arranging something for you?" Eventually I started training as a landscaper, which suited me just a little better because I like big structures and like to think big. Then I started to specialize in floral design and in this I obtained my Master's degree.
'Flowers and plants definitely have a connecting factor as far as I'm concerned. They can be disarming and evoke emotions without having to say anything. The most beautiful
compliment I received when I won Hollands Beste Bloemstylist. I had made a dress with plant material and people were just crying over my dress! How special is that? I always take nature as inspiration in my work. Nature has so much to offer, which is so beautiful. Touching people at the right moments through beauty, that's what I want. For a funeral or a wedding, for example, the right flowers can really say something personal. That is so special; flowers and plants work in that way to comfort and make people happy at the same time. So flowers are always a connecting factor with memories.'

'I regularly stay overnight at Van der Valk Hotels and am always pleasantly surprised by the lavish decoration with flowers and plants. You can see that a lot of attention and care has been given to the atmosphere. A combination of fresh and silk flowers and plants creates a pleasant experience for the guests. As far as I am concerned, all the flowers and plants used should be fresh, haha.
